All About Air Conditioning

posted on

This week on All About The Car, the team chats about air conditioning with Jodi, Team Leader at Schierl Tire & Service in Marshfield. Learn all about this magical feature that keeps you cool on those long summer road trips – and get even cooler when you listen here.

History of A/C in Cars

1940 – Packard includes first automotive air conditioning unit on latest car model

1969 – Over 50% of vehicles have A/C

1998 – Saab creates first air conditioned seats

2000 – Lincoln develops first seats capable of both heating and cooling

What’s next?

Did You Know?

You will get better gas mileage if you keep your windows up and A/C on rather than windows down and A/C off.

Your air conditioning unit has a dehumidifier which pulls heat and moisture out of your vehicle cabin.

An A/C unit can fail if the freon inside is just an ounce or two too high or too low.

A certified air conditioning technician at your local service center can empty the freon from your vehicle, weigh it, filter it and return it to your vehicle with any adjustments needed.

◾ Your car uses the A/C in winter to remove moisture from your vehicle in defrost mode.

Make an appointment with your certified A/C Technician to have your system checked. Read the full episode transcript here.
