Here in Wisconsin, we get all the seasons. That's no exaggeration! As far as driving goes, though, there are really only two seasons: road construction and winter. No exaggeration there, either.

Contrary to the hopes of most, winter comes around every year. And, after months of warm temperatures and mild weather, it can be easy to forget how to handle those slick wintry conditions. Everyone -- no matter how experienced -- needs to adjust their mindset and driving habits to stay safe on the road as the temperature drops. • Don’t Rush -- Between subpar road conditions and increased caution behind the wheel, winter driving just takes longer. And that’s okay! Leave for your destination earlier and expect that travel will take more time. Never rush – nothing (even getting home in time for the Packer game) is more important than the safety of everyone on the road. 
• Don’t Skimp on Scraping – No one enjoys removing ice from their windshield or brushing snow from the roof of the car, but it always needs to be done. Ice build-up on windows can seriously impair your vision on the road, and snow on the vehicle can shift and fall in front of the car behind you. Be respectful, be smart, and be safe...scrape those dang windows! 
• Increase Your Distance – You should always maintain a safe distance between your car and those around you. In winter, though, it is important to increase this space. Don’t follow behind vehicles closely, and make sure you have enough room to come to a stop at any given time. Slippery conditions = less traction = longer braking zone. 
• Prepare Mentally – Know how your vehicle handles ice and snow. Avoid driving while fatigued, practice patience, and never allow cell phones or other distractions to steal your focus. • Equip Your Car – Prepare an emergency kit for your trunk. Check that you’ve got warm clothing on hand and these helpful items in case you become stuck or breakdown in cold weather. It’s also a good idea to bring in your vehicle for a routine check-up with a certified automotive technician. They’ll help locate any issues and make sure your tires are able to handle winter conditions, too.
